Welcome Note - USEFP Alumni Affairs Director

On behalf of the Conference Organizing Committee, I am delighted to welcome you to the 14th Annual Fulbright and Humphrey Alumni Conference.

The annual conference is considered the largest gathering of U.S. graduates in Pakistan. Representing the prestigious Fulbright and Humphrey scholarship programs, the meeting provides alumni with an opportunity to network and share their stories. The conference is a platform to highlight the professional achievements and passion projects which are contributing to Pakistan’s socio-economic development.

I am especially pleased to announce that this year’s conference will be held in Karachi at the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) Main Campus. IBA is Pakistan’s leading business school with a rich history of producing stellar academics and professionals including several notable Fulbright alumni. We gratefully acknowledge their help and cooperation in enabling us to bring our conference to Karachi.

With each passing year, our program continues to grow and the primary reason for our success is you, our alumni. This year we received an overwhelming response to our call for papers. We received over 120 abstracts from across the country. Our Conference Planning Committee was once again challenged to select a limited number from such high-quality submissions – something we have come to expect from our extremely professional and skilled alumni community.

Our theme for this year, “Celebrating 70 Years of Pakistan-U.S. Friendship” marks an important milestone in the shared histories of both countries. Our presenters reflect this year’s theme with topics that include the impact of cultural and academic exchange, and individual successes in the energy, public policy, health, economy, governance and education sectors. We hope this year’s selections will help broaden our understanding of the issues, and open opportunities for discussion, and eventual cooperation, which can benefit Pakistan’s progress.

I would like to extend my gratitude to my team which has worked tirelessly these past several months to arrange this conference. While I am unable to do justice to everyone in this brief note, I would like to acknowledge my colleagues in the Alumni Department (Ms. Merium Kazmi, Mr. Shahram Niazi, Mr. Zafarullah and Mr. Abdul Mateen). A special thanks to the USEFP Executive Director Ms. Rita Akhtar for her continuing guidance and support. I am also grateful to the USEFP staff in Islamabad and Karachi for their steadfast support leading up to the event.

Finally, I sincerely hope to see as many of you as possible in Karachi. Remember, even your presence contributes towards the future success of our program. We take great pride in your success and meeting your fellow alumni can open new opportunities for your personal and professional growth.

Karachi awaits you!!!
